Congratulations again to my Valentine's Day giveaway winner, Caroline Vinas! She won a free 1 hour portrait session and we had a blast!

It was also perfect timing for Caroline and her hubby, Neil because they are expecting their baby girl in June! I am so happy I had the chance to do a maternity session for them and capture this beautiful moment in their lives :)

Brennen + Jenni's Surprise Proposal / Cabrillo National Monument / San Diego

3/2/2017

This was the first surprise proposal session I was asked to do and I was so nervous, yet excited at the same time! It was so much fun being able to plan every last detail with Brennen and I am so happy I got the chance to be part of such an important moment for him and his little family!

With help from my friend and photographer, Janis Foley we were able to blend into the beautiful surroundings at the Cabrillo National Monument and capture every moment of the surprise! Jenni had no idea and it was such a special moment because their son Carter was able to join them during this exciting time. He is such a cutie and was all smiles (mostly because he was excited after hearing the news about his parents getting married!)

5 Tips to Know Before Your Photo Session!

3/1/2017

As a photographer, I want my clients to get the most out of their photography experience and part of that experience happens even before our photo session together. So, I’ve put together a list of 5 simple tips you can do before our session to make sure you get the photos you love while enjoying your experience!

Picture
Choose your location carefully
Your location can really help set the tone for your photos, depending on what look you are going for. If you are looking for a more rustic look, choose a location with more greenery or trees, like a park. If you want something more modern, you can go somewhere in the city, like downtown. For something more unique, think about a location that has sentimental meaning, for example a place your family enjoys going to together or somewhere you and your significant other first met! You can definitely discuss ideas with your photographer and they will also have locations in mind.

Take time to plan your outfits
Taking the time to plan your outfit in advanced can also help you set the tone for your photos. If you want photos that have a softer feel, choose more neutral colors like white, tan, gray, beige or pastels with fabrics that are more flowy. For a more fun feel with a pop, go with brighter colors like red, yellow or a bright pink. If you want a more dramatic feel, choose colors like burgundy, purple, navy, dark green, dark gray or black (these colors work best in the fall or winter, too.)

Allow yourself plenty of time to get ready
For all the ladies, if you can get your hair and makeup done professionally the day of the shoot, this will make all the difference. This allows you to not have to worry about doing it yourself and for you to be more relaxed for the session. For families, leave plenty of time for bathing, dressing and grooming so you don’t feel rushed before the shoot. If everyone is relaxed before the session, the session will be more relaxed and fun!

Be well rested and fed
Everyone should be as comfortable and happy as possible, so make sure to get a good night’s rest the night before and have a snack if you need to before the session. For families, scheduling family photos after your little one’s naps can ensure they are extra happy and well rested. The best time for ideal lighting outdoors is at least an hour before sunset or two hours after sunrise.

Remember to have fun!
Although we want to make sure to capture those posed photos of everyone, it’s okay to have more candid photos where everyone is not looking. Don’t be afraid to show your personality, be silly and just laugh! Your photographer will be there to direct you but don’t worry too much when they just allow you to be you and have fun, which makes for the best natural photos that capture your most genuine moments.
